Lanning-Pittillo

Cemetery

Dear Family Members

We are in the process of attempting to make certain that we take care of the Lanning/ Pittillo Cemetery for future generations as this is important to us. We have been meeting to attempt to make sure that all details are clear, understood and documented. If you have any questions about the meetings, please feel free to contact those listed below who have been in attendance.

Our treasurer is Jessie Koontz and she is in charge of the funds. During the 2007 fiscal year we spent about $4,000 on upkeep and yet we only had about $2,000 contributed to the cemetery fund. Our yearly maintenance costs run around $4,000 currently.

Enclosed you will find a postcard. Please complete this survey and return to Jessie Koontz 516 Avery’s Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704, (828) 684-9360, ASAP, so we can have a better idea of the future needs of Lanning/Pittillo Cemetery. Your input is very important, this is your Cemetery!

If you would like to send a donation to the Lanning/Pittillo Cemetery fund please send a check made payable to Lanning/Pittillo Cemetery c/o Jessie Koontz 516 Avery’s Creek Road, Arden, NC 28704. Or if you want to have a legal tax deductible donation for Lanning/Pittillo Cemetery Fund, please send your check to Fruitland Baptist Church, 150 College Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792. In the memo section please document Lanning/Pittillo Cemetery Fund. The church has a separate cemetery and we do not want to get it confused. The church will then send you the proper documentation for your taxes.

Any extra monies at the end of the year will be put into a general fund. This will be done at the end of each year. We need to attempt to build this fund to have enough money to properly care for the cemetery for our future generations. A perpetual care fund is being discussed. This more formal legal guarantee is a way to insure the care of our cemetery, and your input is needed. Please mark your calendars for Saturday, August 2, 2008, 12:00 noon. We will gather to reconnect with family members, share a meal, and discuss business related to the cemetery and its maintenance.

It is imperative that we preserve this cemetery not only for future generations and for genealogical research, but also, to honor the memory of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents who are buried there. Thank you for your concern about the long term care of our cemetery.

Sincerely,
